The museum was instituted as part of the centenary celebrations of the engineer-statesman Sir M. Vishvesvaraya (1861-1962). It was handed over to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 1962. In 1978 when the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) was formed, Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum became its southern headquarters. The Council has a chain of 28 centers spread all over India. The objective of the Council is to popularize science through interactive exhibits.

The exhibition has the following halls in 4 floor building.

  • Science for children gallery
  • BEL HALL Of Electronics

Other attractions[edit]

There is a virtual game area, where children can play music using virtual instruments. An attractive mural made of colored beads welcome the visitors to this gallery, which is filled with fun and enjoyment. The museum also conducts a mini-planetarium show called 'Taramandal' at regular intervals. This is the only museum in the world other than the Smithsonian Institutions in the US, to have a full scale replica[2] of the 1903 flyer of Wright brothers.


A new 3D theater using technology from Light Speed, USA is open to the public now. Interesting films on deep sea diving and brain are screened here.The 3d effects are spectacular. Also there is Science show that happens.

Timing:
10am to 6pm. The museum which attracts close to one million visitors a year, is opened on all days (except Dipawali and Ganesha Chathurthi).

Fees:
Adult - Rs.30.
Children below 5 years - Entry Free.
Science show - Rs.10.
3D show - Rs.20

There is a food court on top of the build, were you can get all kinds of foods and snacks.

If you are travelling in bus you need to take a bus to Museum Kasturba Road from shivajinagar or majestic to reach the museum.

From Shivajinagar to Museum:
Bus route number which travel toward kasturba road are 215U, 125A, 368D, MBS-14, K-6, 13 series, 27A, 37 series, MF-10, 182, 210G, 214A, 34, 342R, MBS-11, etc

From Majestic to Museum:
If you are travelling from majectic, then take bus which goes to corporation circle bus top. get down in corporation circle and take a auto to the museum. 

Or you can also take a bus to shivajinagar and get down in Indian Express bus stop. From there you will get many buses which goes to the museum. 

There is also a Art gallery next to the museum which you can visit, if you are a art lover.
